All 
participants and/or the guardian of participants under age 18 must sign a waiver of liability in order to participate in any training or activities conducted by Guards Get Trained, LLC.       Minor Liability Waiver       Adult Liability Waiver       COVID Waiver


Fees for the Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Review Course are non-refundable. Participants that are unable to successfully complete the Instructor Review course will not be granted a refund or credit. In extenuating circumstances, requests for refund/credit (partial or whole) or transfer to another class will be considered on a case by case basis but are not guaranteed.


All participants in the Lifeguarding Instructor/Instructor Trainer Review Course must provide documentation of their current Lifeguarding Instructor Certification (or expired within the last 30 days).  To be eligible to participate in the Instructor Review course Instructors must have taught one Lifeguarding Course or one Lifeguarding Review Course since completing the previous Instructor Review course.  It is the instructor's responsibility to ensure that the Red Cross Training Support Center has records for all Lifeguarding Course / Lifeguarding Review Courses taught in order to meet the eligibility requirements.  Refunds/Credits/Transfers will not be granted if the Red Cross Training Support Center denies LGI Re-certification due to an Instructor not meeting eligibility requirements. 


Lifeguard Instructors should take the time to train and prepare themselves in advance of the Instructor Review Course.  Instructors are expected to be able to perform skills to the standard.  Instructor Review Course participants must pass the Lifeguarding Instructor Exam with a minimum score of 80% or better to successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor Review course..


IMPORTANT:

  • Participants that do not show up for the course will forfeit all registration fees.  
  • Participants that are unable to successfully complete the Instructor Review course or the Basic Level certification portion of the course will not be given a refund or credit for the registration fees.


Basic Level Certification additional skills/requirements include:

  1. Complete Final Skills Scenario #1 within the 90 second time requirement and exit the water without the use of a ladder.
  2. Pass the basic level written exams with a minimum score of 80%.
  3. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  4. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  5. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
  • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on their back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance
    underwater.
  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.


What to Bring:

  1. Lifeguarding Instructor Certification - current or < 30 days expired
  2. Government Issued Photo ID
  3. Lifeguarding r.17 Instructor Manual (must be printed copy)
  4. Lifeguarding r.17 Participant Manual (print or digital copy is acceptable)
  5. Swim Suit, towel, and comfortable clothes for performing CPR/First Aid skills
  6. Hip pack, pocket mask w/ 1-way valve, gloves - (loaners will be available as needed)
  7. Goggles (if swimming the 300 yd for basic level certification). 
  8. USB thumb drive 3.0 - 8 GB space available minimum. (optional - course information is available in digital format).


100% class attendance is required. All participants must arrive by the scheduled start of the class and remain until the class is dismissed. Participants that do not maintain 100% attendance will not be able to successfully complete the course and receive certification. Refunds, transfers, and make-ups will not be given for participants that fail to maintain 100% attendance.


Participants should be prepared to participate in both classroom and in-water activities throughout each class session. Participants should wear comfortable clothes for classroom activities, CPR and first aid skills.  You may want to bring a sweatshirt if the classroom area is cold.  Participants should wear a secure fitting swimsuit and have at least one towel (2-3 towels may be desired).  


Identification verification is required for this course. Please bring a valid government issued photo identification.
